The Eclipse MicroPen is a microneedling therapy device. It holds 12 microneedles and boasts a patented, high-speed motor that promises a speedier, more comfortable experience compared to the previous generation of microneedle devices. Unlike older versions that rolled across the skin, the MicroPen delivers precise, vertical penetration, creating smaller wound sites with less pain and reddening, offering better accuracy, and resulting in greater skin improvement.
Eclipse MicroPen Overview
Sometimes called collagen induction therapy or percutaneous collagen induction, microneedling therapy uses fine needles that puncture the skin, creating microscopic controlled injuries, triggering the body to repair the wounds via the production of collagen and elastin. This natural repair process firms the skin and reduces fine wrinkles, large pores, acne scars, and stretch marks.
MicroPen’s needles are adjustable, depending on the depth of treatment necessary. Patients typically require multiple treatments, based on their skin condition and their desired results.
Procedure Walk-Through
- Preparation: Two weeks prior to your treatment, discontinue the use of blood-thinning medications. This includes NSAIDs, aspirin, and supplements such as vitamin E and Gingko biloba.
- Anesthesia: Anesthesia is not necessary for microneedle therapy, which patients compare to the feeling of sandpaper against the skin. However, a topical anesthetic cream to improve comfort is available. Discuss this option with Dr. Vallecillos during your consultation.
- Preoperative Consultation: This is the time to ask questions and share your desired results with Dr. Vallecillos. The doctor will walk you through the various options to treat your skin complaints and help you make the right choice for your individual needs.
Eclipse MicroPen Procedure
An hour prior to treatment, Dr. Vallecillos applies the numbing cream, as per the patient’s wishes. Next is the application of a topical gel, such as sterile saline, to your skin. This works as a lubricator to help the MicroPen glide smoothly over your skin. Then, the doctor presses the pen against your skin, simultaneously gliding it across the entire treatment area, creating thousands of microscopic channels that stimulate your body’s natural healing processes. The procedure lasts approximately 20 minutes.
Patients requiring multiple sessions repeat this process every four to six weeks.
