Radiesse Los Angeles
Radiesse (calcium hydroxylapatite) is an injectable filler made of small calcium-based microspheres in a water-based gel that both immediately restores facial volume and encourages the production of collagen over time. As we age, the body’s natural production of collagen will decrease, leading to a loss of elasticity and firmness in the skin. This is especially noticeable in the face, where skin can sag and wrinkles, lines, and creases can appear. When injected into the skin, Radiesse fills wrinkles and stimulates the natural production of collagen, creating a firmer and more supple appearance.
Procedure Walk-Through
- Preparation: You should stop taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and certain herbal supplements that act as blood thinners for several weeks prior to your appointment. This will minimize bruising and bleeding from the procedure. No skin sensitivity testing is required before beginning treatment.
- Anesthesia: Although anesthesia is not necessary, the injected mixture contains lidocaine, a numbing agent that will minimize patient discomfort during the procedure.
- Radiesse will be administered using a very fine needle to the area(s) of the face that require treatment, usually for moderate to severe lines and wrinkles around the eyes, nasolabial folds, corners of the mouth, and chin. Radiesse can dramatically improve the appearance of wrinkled skin, filling and firming the face and stimulating the production of collagen for a healthy, youthful complexion.
While results are long-lasting, they are not permanent. The calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres will naturally break down into calcium and phosphate ions, which the body then naturally metabolizes. At this point, a new round of treatment will be necessary to maintain results.

Radiesse FAQs
Who is a candidate for Radiesse?
You should consider Radiesse dermal filler if you are an adult and you suffer from deep facial lines or wrinkles, and an overall loss of volume and elasticity in the facial skin.
What is the recovery time for Radiesse?
Since Radiesse is a non-surgical procedure, recovery time is minimal and generally lasts a few days. Possible side effects include swelling and facial soreness, which are temporary and can be minimized with the application of ice packs. Some bruising may also occur. Results can vary by patient and should be discussed with Dr. Vallecillos prior to the use of Radiesse.
Are there risks or side effects with Radiesse?
Some patients experience redness, swelling and facial soreness, especially near the injection sites. These are usually temporary and can be minimized by applying ice immediately after treatment. Bruising may also occur. Additional side effects are rare but can include persistent swelling, firmness near the injection sites, and infection.
How long do the results last?
Radiesse is a long-lasting treatment, but results are not permanent. Over time body will naturally metabolize the microspheres. Some patients report seeing results for up to a year after the procedure, but most patients will require repeat treatments to maintain results. Radiesse both immediately provides an increase in volume and stimulates the natural production of collagen over time. Patients will see maximum benefits after repeated treatments, and can maintain results with consistent follow-ups.
