MiraDry Excessive Sweat Treatment
MiraDry Procedure Overview
Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Glenn Vallecillos, offers the MiraDry procedure which is aimed at treating excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis in the under arms. MiraDry works by eliminating the sweat glands. MiraDry is the only FDA approved procedure to eliminate sweat glands permanently and non-invasively. The MiraDry procedure take one hour and utilizes electromagnetic energy to generate heat to destroy the glands.
The best and most-effective non-permanent treatment for hyperhydrosis or excessive sweating is Botox. Botox injections may be used to target excessive sweating of the arm pits, brow and forehead, palms and soles of feet, and essentially anywhere that excessive sweating is a problem.
Botox treatments for hyperhydrosis typically have a success rate of above 80 %, with results lasting up to 12 months. Botox acts to stop sweating by disabling the release of a chemical signaler in the sweat glands, thereby temporarily haulting the sweating process.
- Preparation: We recommend shaving your armpits 2 days prior to your treatment. Dr. Vallecillos may ask that you refrain from taking anti-inflammatory medications and/or medications that contain aspirin to reduce any swelling and/or bruising that may occur.
- Anesthesia: Local anesthesia is used while undergoing a miraDry treatment. The procedure is outpatient, non-surgical, and non-invasive.
- A typical treatment session will last about one hour. Immediate icing is required and ice packs will be provided for the patient.
Who is a candidate for miraDry?
You should consider miraDry if you experience excessive sweating in the underarms. If you find yourself displaying an odor or embarrassing underarm sweat stains.
Aren’t sweat glands necessary?
Sweat glands are not necessary in the underarms. The human body contains over 2 million sweat glands, and only 2% reside in your under arm. Though your sweat glands will be eliminated in your under arms, you will still sweat else where.
What is the recovery time for miraDry?
Most patients experience no downtime, and are able to resume their normal activities immediately after a miraDry treatment session. Patients can begin exercising within several days. Some patients may experience, swelling, numbness, and sensitivity in the treated areas, but in most cases it is mild and temporary.
Are there risks or side effects with miraDry?
Since miraDry is a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure, risks and side effects are minimal. Many patients experience temporary swelling, tingling, and numbness in the treated area; some may experience bruising. These side effects will resolve on their own.
How long do the results last?
The treatment is permanent. Sweat glands do not grow back, so the effects are long lasting. Clinical research has confirmed an average 82% sweat reduction in patients.
