Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Glenn Vallecillos, offers the MiraDry procedure which is aimed at treating excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis in the underarms. MiraDry works by eliminating sweat glands. MiraDry is the only FDA-approved procedure to eliminate sweat glands permanently and non-invasively. The MiraDry procedure takes one hour and utilizes electromagnetic energy to generate heat to destroy the glands.
Procedure Walk-Through
- Preparation: We recommend shaving your armpits 2 days prior to your treatment. Dr. Vallecillos may ask that you refrain from taking anti-inflammatory medications and/or medications that contain aspirin to reduce any swelling and/or bruising that may occur.
- Anesthesia: Local anesthesia is used while undergoing a miraDry treatment. The procedure is outpatient, non-surgical, and non-invasive.
A typical treatment session will last about one hour. Immediate icing is required and ice packs will be provided for the patient.
miraDry Alternatives
The best and most-effective non-permanent treatment for hyperhydrosis or excessive sweating is Botox. Botox injections may be used to target excessive sweating of the arm pits, brow and forehead, palms and soles of feet, and essentially anywhere that excessive sweating is a problem.
Botox treatments for hyperhydrosis typically have a success rate of above 80 %, with results lasting up to 12 months. Botox acts to stop sweating by disabling the release of a chemical signaler in the sweat glands, thereby temporarily haulting the sweating process.
