Lumenis Laser Hair Removal Beverly Hills

The Lumenis LightSheer DUET is a high speed, vacuum-assisted laser hair removal technology. The handpiece emits quick pulses of strong, highly concentrated light. Hair follicles absorb the light, causing them to heat up. This heat damages the hair shaft and bulb, impeding the hair’s future growth. The LightSheer DUET includes a handpiece that covers a much larger size than previous laser hair removal systems. Coupled with the vacuum-assisted feature, it allows for quick, comfortable hair removal treatments in larger areas, such as the back and legs. It also includes the smaller handpiece for more precise treatment of smaller areas, such as the face and bikini line.

Procedure Walk-Through

  1. Preparation: Two weeks prior to treatment, discontinue use of blood-thinning medications, including NSAIDs and supplements such as vitamin E and Gingko biloba. Also, avoid direct sunlight for six weeks prior to treatment, as this increases the risk of hyperpigmentation. Some conditions and prescription drugs create greater light sensitivity, so inform Dr. Vallecillos of your complete medical history, especially anything related to connective tissue disorders and medications such as Tetracyclines.
  2. Anesthesia: Anesthesia is not necessary for this procedure.
  3. Preoperative Consult: During your preoperative consultation, be prepared to discuss your previous and current medical history, including any prescriptions or over-the-counter medications you take. Dr. Vallecillos discusses your expected outcomes, advises on the appropriate treatment, and helps set reasonable expectations.

Lumnis DUET

Dr. Vallecillos applies the appropriate handpiece to the targeted treatment area. The LightSheer ET handpiece has a spot size of 9 x 9 mm, usable for smaller treatment areas. For larger treatment areas, the doctor uses the LightSheer HS handpiece, with a spot size of 22 x 35 mm. Each delivers a micro-pulse of highly concentrated light. Typically, patients require more than one treatment session, as hair grows at varying rates. Treatment generally last around 15 minutes.

Lumenis DUET FAQs

Who is a candidate for Lumenis DUET?

Lumenis DUET is safe for all skin types.

What is the recovery time for Lumenis DUET?

Patients may immediately resume normal activities, though they must avoid exposure to direct sunlight for four weeks following treatment. Follow Dr. Vallecillos’ instructions regarding post-treatment care. These include short, warm showers instead of hot showers or baths. Makeup is usable on unbroken skin.

Are there risks or side effects with Lumenis DUET?

Risks and side effects are temporary and happen rarely. Patients may experience temporary swelling, which is treatable with cold packs. Bruising is rare; when it does occur, it subsides within a week. Some patients develop a superficial healing crust or blister. There is a light risk of either hyperpigmentation (darker) or hypopigmentation (lighter) at the treatment area, which generally fades within a month. Sun exposure intensifies this, so it is imperative patients avoid direct sunlight.

How long do the results last?

Hair reduction is permanent.
