Voluma XC Overview

Voluma XC is the latest in the line of Allergan injectable gel fillers. Voluma is FDA approved for the management of cheek augmentation and has a longevity of up to 2 years.

Dr. Vallecillos Demonstrates a Dermal Filler Procedure with Injectables: Voluma XC, Juvederm, and Botox:

Procedure Walk-Through

  1. Preparation: To prepare for a Voluma XC treatment, it is best if the patient avoids medications including: Aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen, as well as some herbal supplements for at least one week prior to your appointment. Avoiding alcohol for 48 hours prior to treatment is recommended. This will help minimize bruising and bleeding at the injection sites.
  2. Anesthesia: Voluma XC has lidocaine admixed with it, providing immediate numbing upon injection. Doctor Vallecillos uses topical numbing agents as well as local injection to optimize the numbing process and minimize patient discomfort. The type of anesthesia provided is decided on a patient to patient basis.
  3. Doctor Vallecillos utilizes cannulas to inject Voluma XC into the cheek regions, creating greater balance and symmetry in the mid face, minimizing the amount of potential bruising and discomfort experienced with conventional needles.

While results from Voluma XC injections can be seen immediately, the patient can expect some swelling, which typically resides by day three. Voluma XC is slowly metabolized in the body, lasting up to 24 months following the treatment.

Voluma XC FAQs

Who is a candidate for Voluma XC?

Patients interested in achieving greater cheek volume or improving cheek symmetry are good candidates for injectable filler Voluma XC.

What is the recovery time for Voluma XC?

Since Voluma XC is a non-surgical injection, recovery time is minimal and generally patients return to their normal routine within the same day. However, strenuous exercise, alcohol, and exposure to sun and heat should be avoided for at least 24 hours following the procedure. Side effects are mild and temporary, usually lasting less than one week, though results can vary and should be discussed with Dr. Vallecillos prior to the use of Voluma XC.

Are there risks or side effects with Voluma XC?

The most common side effects of Voluma XC include swelling, redness, and firmness at the injection site. There is also a very small risk of infection and tissue ischemia. Because Voluma XC is a hyaluronic acid, it is biocompatible, making allergic skin testing unnecessary.

How long do the results last?

Voluma XC is the longest lasting injectable hyaluronic acid filler on the market, with a longevity of up to 2 years. The product is metabolized at different rates from person to person, hence longevity may vary.
