Radiant Skin and a Brighter You with Lumecca Photorejuvenation
Skin Pigmentation Worsens As We Age
Lumecca Photorejuvenation, a form of IPL or photofacial is the predominant tool for addressing and eliminating pigmentary changes in the skin and improving skin tone. But why do we develop pigmentary changes with aging ?
Variations in skin pigmentation, tone, and texture are among the most dominant and visible changes associated with our skin as we age. Apart from aging, excess sun exposure, and hormonal changes ( “mask of pregnancy” as commonly seen with melasma), are the main contributors to pigmentary changes.
The development of wrinkles, thinning and sagging skin, graying of hair, and changes in skin pigmentation collectively lead to the loss of a youthful appearance. Beyond preventative measures such as moisturizing the skin, following a healthy diet, and protecting the skin from UV radiation, advances in aesthetic medicine have created technologies that remove unwanted pigmentation in a safe and effective manner.

How does IPL Photorejuvenation Remove Sun Damage & Age Spots
Lumecca Photorejuvenation also known as IPL, uses bursts of focused light to destroy unwanted pigment. This includes age spots and liver spots, sun damage, freckles, and birthmarks.
So, how exactly does light remove pigmentation and rejuvenate the skin? In principle, IPL uses light of various wavelengths and intensities that travel through the upper epidermal layer of the skin and heat the lower dermal layer containing unwanted pigmentation. By absorbing the emitted light, the pigments responsible for discoloration are heated, destroyed, and cleared from the skin.
IPL also effectively removes varicose/spider veins and unwanted hair. In the case of veins, IPL heats and eliminates the superficial veins forming reddish tones on the skin. Alternatively, IPL destroys the affected hair follicle to prevent hair from growing again. Moreover, by utilizing light across various wavelengths (between 500 to 1200 nm) and intensity ranges, IPL can be controlled to remove different types of pigment. These include dark brown age spots, reddish pigmentation from rosacea and spider veins, and lighter pigments from freckles and sun damage.
Can IPL Treat Acne and Pre-cancerous lesions ?
IPL treats several dermatologic conditions. For example, active acne and precancerous skin lesions are commonly treated in combination with Levulonic Acid Photodynamic Therapy.
What is the best IPL?
The current gold standard for IPL or ” Photofacial” is the Lumecca Photorejuvenation system by InMode®. This system delivers three times more energy per session, thereby increasing the therapeutic potential of IPL and reducing the number of sessions required for optimal results. The IPL Consultation
Before the procedure begins, a consultation is performed with Dr.Vallecillos to outline the expectations, explain the treatment, and address additional therapies that may be performed with IPL to optimize results. Complimentary treatments include Botox, Injectable Fillers, Microneedling, Fraxel, Photodynamic Therapy, Clear & Brilliant, ReSurFX, Morpheus8, and Facetite.
The IPL Procedure
- To begin, the skin is thoroughly cleansed and make-up is removed which may interfere with IPL.
- Next, a coupling gel is applied to the skin which dissipates heat and minimizes the risk of thermal injury to the skin.
- To prevent damage to the eyes, patients wear small googles.
- Next, the Lumecca settings are customized to accommodate the patient’s unique skin pigmentation. This guarantees personalized therapy and optimum results.
- The Lumecca applies pulses of light to the skin, slowly and meticulously covering the area of interest.
- Lastly, a thin layer of Neova Copper Cream and sunblock is applied to the skin.
How long does the IPL Treatments take?
Lumecca Photorejuvenation Treatments take about 15 minutes. With the In mode Lumecca platform, most patients receive 2 to 3 treatments, each being roughly 3-4 weeks apart. Following this initial series of treatments, patients are generally encouraged to return for maintenance treatments every 6 months.
Are there restrictions after IPL Treatments?
There is minimal downtime following Lumecca IPL therapy. Regular activities are resumed immediately after treatment. Some side effects may include slight irritation and swelling in the treatment area as well as redness and peeling of the skin. Thus, immediately following the procedure, patients are advised to limit sun exposure and to refrain from using hot water or harsh chemicals when cleaning the skin.
When are Lumecca IPL Results noticeable?
Lumecca Photorejuvenation shows noticeable results about a week following the treatment. As mentioned earlier, 2-3 treatments, performed 3-4 weeks apart produce the best results.
